A Chivalric Humanism holiday to honor the memory and achievements of Charles Martel, who was born on August 23, 676. Charles Martel was the progenitor of the Carolingian dynasty of Frankish kings and is best remembered today for his key military achievements. Charles Martel originated the concept of knights as a social caste in Europe, and he also developed the medieval feudal system. Without Charles Martel’s contributions to history, later institutions of knightly orders such as the Hospitallers and Templars would not have existed and therefore, chivalry would not have existed without him.
